The collection "Altered Basics" is a three-piece collection that is designed to enhance a range of garments and items to a greater capacity of construction and creativity. Simple items such as t-shirts, pants, and jackets are slightly changed in a myriad of ways. The sketches above provided a rough ideation of what these changes would encompass and how they would work. Throughout the following images, a clear 3D design learning process is occurring as I become more comfortable in intermediate use of the CLO3D platform.
Turtleneck & Harness
The first garment of the collection is a simple shirt altered with a turtleneck as well a harness that drapes over it. The main skill that I was developing in this project was my use of darts. Being my first project with darts, I tried to explore the ways it impacts the fit of any pattern piece, such as the diamond darts that are on the back pants and the breast darts on the harness. Learning not only how to create darts, but also how to efficiently use them. |
Corset Top
For the second look in the collection a simple corset and top are featured, as well as tight fitted pants. The main effort in this collection was trying to elevate my use of darts as well as gain a new skill in folding fabric in the 3D simulator. Not only was I able to expand my skillset by constant and efficient use of darts in the 3D model I was also able to learn how to fold in CLO3D in the collar of the cut off shirt. Finally, I experimented with different fabrics and colors by changing the corset to a light leather and the pants to a light blue denim. |
Jacket & Shorts
The final featured piece in the collection is a short and jacket. The jacket has an asymmetric element in the shortened right side of the jacket. The main skill that I developed here was a use of the linked vs. unlinked pattern pieces that allowed me to make an identical jacket sides, then later unlinked them to alter the right side. I also learned how to use zippers in the program, using a zipper for the jacket. |
